Hi guys! One of the things I did while I was in Korea was hike up to Namsan Tower! Namsan park surrounds the tower and it is filled with beautiful trails, ponds, and beautiful flowers. It is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of busy Seoul city without going too far.
There is a yellow tour bus, with stops at Myeongdong and Namdaemun, that can take you to the park or straight to the tower. If you get off at the National Theater of Korea (국립극장 / Gungnip Geukjang), that is also the entrance to Namsan Park (남산공원).
The first thing I noticed after entering the park was how quiet it was. It was nice to get away from the noise and get some fresh air. No wonder many elderly (아줌마/아쩌씨 and 할머니/할아버지) are seen walking their dogs or exercising along these paths.
There are also separated stops with bars and machines where people can exercise. But most people just run or walk.
The scenery is great and I never imagined there to be this much green in Seoul! I think city government worked really hard to preserve this area. The flowers are beautiful and very well kept. The paths and trails are also very clean, despite its old age.
We are almost there! The hike itself is not difficult at all, but a bit long, so I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes! We also got a bit lost, but the path says it is only a little more than 2 km. There are a lot of stairs and the final hill at the end (leading up to the tower) is actually quite steep.
As we hike higher and higher up, we start to see glimpses of Seoul city and countless buildings between the trees.
Whew, finally. This was actually taken while walking up that final hill. I don’t have any pictures of the hill itself, but it is quite steep!
Not as many people visit Namsan Tower during the day because the city lights are so pretty at night. But it is also beautiful during the day~
After you walk around, you don’t have to hike back down to the theater. You can just take the yellow tour bus, which can drop you off at Myeongdong or Namdaemun/Gwangjang Market. There are a few, so make sure you take the right one!
